An unidentified man, estimated to be around forty years old, was found dead on a pavement in the capital’s Gulistan area on Saturday morning. Police recovered the body from outside the Shaheed Matiur Park in the Paltan police jurisdiction before transferring it to the hospital.
At approximately 6:30 am on Saturday, 24 October, patrolling officers from Paltan Police Station spotted the man lying unconscious on the sidewalk near the park gates. He was clad in a soiled lungi and a black t-shirt. Officers immediately stepped in to assist the individual, rushing him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for urgent medical attention. Upon arrival at around 8:00 am, the attending doctors examined him and pronounced him dead.
Confirming the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamruzzaman Ovi of Paltan Police Station stated that the body has been deposited at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy. Preliminary assessments by law enforcement suggest the deceased may have been a vagrant or suffering from substance addiction, with acute illness likely contributing to his death. However, police emphasised that the precise cause of death will only be confirmed once the post-mortem report is finalized.
Investigators are actively attempting to establish the identity of the deceased. Officers are liaising with nearby traders and residents in the congested Gulistan commercial hub, while fingerprint verification techniques and national database matching are expected to be deployed to trace his family.
