A fatal road accident on the busy Dhaka–Chattogram Highway has claimed the lives of two men and left three others injured in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident occurred near the Kanra area of Daudkandi Upazila, a section of highway often associated with heavy traffic and high-speed যানবাহন movement.
According to police and local sources, the victims were travelling home in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw after attending a religious gathering at the shrine fair of Soleman Lengtā Shrine. While attempting to cross the highway—reportedly by moving against the designated traffic flow—the auto-rickshaw was struck by an unidentified vehicle, resulting in a devastating collision.
The deceased have been identified as Barek (42), son of the late Latu Mia from Sarkarpur village, and Mostafa (40), son of Nur Islam. Both were professional auto-rickshaw drivers. Eyewitnesses suggest the impact was severe, leaving little chance of survival; both men died at the scene.
Three other passengers sustained injuries in the crash. They include Nabi Hossain (38), Kawser (40), a migrant worker, and Ismail (37), a salesman. Another injured individual, Sagar Mia (35), also an auto-rickshaw driver from the Kadamtali area of Daudkandi, was among those receiving treatment. Family members reported that at least one of the injured remains in critical condition and has been transferred to a hospital in Dhaka for advanced care.

Officials from the Daudkandi Highway Police confirmed that the दुर्घटना occurred when the चालक attempted to navigate the গাড়ি across the highway in the wrong direction, exposing it to oncoming high-speed traffic. Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar Majumdar stated that immediate assistance was provided, and the injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities.
The bodies of the deceased have since been handed over to their families. Authorities have launched efforts to identify the vehicle involved in the crash, though no arrests have been made so far.
This tragic incident once again highlights the dangers of improper road usage and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly on high-speed national highways where even minor errors can prove fatal.
