A disturbing incident in Cumilla’s Daudkandi municipality has led to the arrest of a teenager accused of abducting an eight-year-old girl, subjecting her to physical assault in a maize field, and stealing her gold ornaments.

The incident occurred in North Hasanpur village under Ward No. 3 of Daudkandi municipality. According to police and local sources, the child was allegedly lured on Monday (30 March) to a nearby cornfield, where she was brutally beaten. During the assault, the perpetrator reportedly removed her gold earrings and necklace before abandoning her in a severely injured state.

Locals later discovered the child lying unconscious and promptly informed her family. She was first taken to Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex, but due to the severity of her injuries, doctors referred her to Gouripur Hospital for initial stabilisation. As her condition deteriorated further, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Medical staff have described her condition as critical, noting multiple serious injuries across her body.

Shockingly, the accused is identified as the victim’s paternal cousin. Following the incident, he went into hiding but was later apprehended on Tuesday night (31 March) by local residents from Dhaka Garh village in Daudkandi Upazila. He was subsequently handed over to the police.

Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and the accused will be sent to Cumilla Central Jail after a case is formally filed.

The victim’s father expressed deep anguish over the incident, stating that the brutality inflicted upon his daughter was beyond comprehension. He demanded swift arrest, strict legal action, and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

Police officials from Daudkandi Model Police Station noted that although a written complaint had not initially been lodged, the suspect had already been detained. Further investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack and theft.
