Abandoned Trunk Reveals Female Body

An unidentified female body was discovered inside an abandoned trunk left by the roadside in Shreebordi, Sherpur, Bangladesh, prompting a police investigation into a suspected homicide.

The grim discovery was made on Wednesday (1 April) at approximately 12:30 pm in the Tatihati area near Dalibari intersection within Shreebordi Municipality. Local police from Shreebordi Police Station recovered the body after receiving information from shocked residents.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident appeared suspicious from the outset. Early in the morning, a rickshaw-van was seen arriving from the direction of Shreebordi town and leaving a trunk by the roadside. The vehicle then departed quickly without any explanation or attempt to retrieve the item.

For several hours, the trunk remained unattended. Locals later noticed an unusual foul odour and flies gathering around it, raising alarm. As suspicion grew, residents informed the police.

Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and opened the trunk. Inside, they found the body of a middle-aged woman wrapped tightly in a mattress and a bedsheet. The body was in a semi-decomposed state, suggesting it had been kept concealed for some time prior to being dumped.

Police officials have stated that the victim remains unidentified. Initial observations suggest that the woman may have been killed elsewhere before her body was transported and abandoned in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Officer-in-Charge Nurul Islam of Shreebordi Police Station confirmed the recovery and described the condition of the body. He noted that the trunk had been deliberately placed at the roadside, likely to avoid immediate detection. He further added that the case is being treated as suspicious death, with priority given to determining the identity of the victim and identifying those responsible.

Investigators are currently examining nearby CCTV footage, tracing potential transport routes, and questioning locals to reconstruct the movements of the rickshaw-van seen at the scene. Police have also appealed to the public for any information regarding missing persons reports that may match the description of the deceased.
