Police in Srimongol Moulvibazar, have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of 14-year-old schoolboy Junayed, a case that has triggered widespread concern in the local community.

The arrests were made on Tuesday (31 March) during a targeted operation conducted in the Bhunabir area of the upazila. Following their detention, investigators were able to recover the SIM card of the victim’s mobile phone based on information provided during initial interrogation, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

According to police sources, the two arrested individuals are residents of the same locality where the incident took place. They have been identified as Maruf (24), son of Churut Ali alias Churuk Ali of Alisharkul village in Bhunabir Union, and Juel Mia (27), son of Torab Mia from Bade Alisha area of the same union.

The victim, Junayed, was a seventh-grade student and the son of Dubai expatriate Ramiz Mia from Alisharkul village. He had gone missing on the evening of 27 March after leaving his home area. Two days later, on 29 March around 8:00 pm, his body was discovered in the Kamarpur area of Alisharkul, prompting the initiation of a murder investigation.

Local police officials confirmed that the suspects were produced before the court after their arrest. Authorities have, however, declined to disclose further operational details, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation and the need to preserve evidential integrity.

Investigators are now focusing on reconstructing the events leading up to the killing, including the victim’s last known movements and any possible interpersonal connections between the accused and the deceased. The recovery of the SIM card is expected to assist forensic analysis and digital tracking, which may shed light on communication patterns prior to the incident.
