Renowned Bangladeshi Nazrul Sangeet exponent and veteran voice artist of the historic Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, Dalia Naushin, has passed away at the age of 71. She breathed her last at 12:57 pm on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka. The news was confirmed by her cousin and fellow Nazrul Sangeet artist Sadiya Afrin Mallik.

According to family sources, Dalia Naushin had been suffering from cancer for a prolonged period. Her health had gradually deteriorated over recent months, requiring repeated hospital admissions alongside home-based care. Following a significant decline in her condition, she was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka on 27 March. Despite continuous medical supervision, her condition did not improve, and she eventually succumbed to complications related to her illness.

Her passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Bangladesh’s cultural and musical heritage. As a distinguished artiste of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, she played an influential role during the Liberation War of 1971, when the radio station served as a vital platform for inspiring freedom fighters and boosting morale through patriotic broadcasts and songs.

In recognition of her lifelong contribution to music, particularly her dedication to Nazrul Sangeet, the Government of Bangladesh honoured her with the prestigious Ekushey Padak in 2020, one of the nation’s highest civilian awards.

Born into a culturally prominent family, she was the daughter of celebrated architect Mazharul Islam, whose legacy in modern Bangladeshi architecture remains highly influential. Dalia Naushin is survived by two sons, one residing in the United States and the other in Spain.

Funeral Arrangements

Her family has announced that the funeral prayer (Janaza) will be held after Maghrib prayers at Gulshan Society Mosque in Dhaka. She will later be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard.
