Professor Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government, has expressed deep concern over the serious shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha and potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, by assailants in the Bijoynagar area of the capital.
The chief adviser described such violence in the electoral environment as entirely unacceptable. He emphasised that incidents like this are deeply regrettable for the country’s peaceful political sphere and create fear among the public. He added that ensuring the safety of every candidate and their supporters is a fundamental responsibility of the government.
In response to Hadi’s critical condition, the chief adviser has instructed all relevant authorities to take every possible measure to ensure he receives the highest standard of medical care. Detailed guidance has been issued to the Ministry of Health to closely monitor treatment procedures, coordinate with hospital authorities, and guarantee the provision of all necessary medical equipment and specialist doctors.
At the same time, the chief adviser has directed law enforcement agencies to identify and bring all perpetrators of the attack swiftly under the law. He called for immediate steps to collect evidence from the scene, record eyewitness statements, review CCTV footage, and investigate any organised planning behind the assault.
The chief adviser further stressed, “Any form of violence intended to disrupt the election will not be tolerated. It is our duty to ensure the safety of the public and the free movement of candidates. Those responsible, whoever they may be, will be brought to justice.”
He also appealed to all political parties, activists, supporters, and citizens to maintain peace and restraint. He emphasised that everyone must act responsibly so that the upcoming election can be conducted in a safe, participatory, and peaceful environment.
The incident has caused widespread concern among political circles and the general public. Such acts of violence ahead of the election are entirely unacceptable. The government, law enforcement agencies, and the health authorities are actively monitoring all aspects of the situation and taking necessary steps to maintain control. Authorities are fully engaged in ensuring both the investigation of the attack and the protection of political participants throughout the electoral process.
