RUSSO-BANGLA model Monica Kabir has been served a public legal notice following allegations that she assaulted a pedestrian in Dhaka’s Gulshan area. The notice was delivered on Wednesday, 11 March, by Supreme Court lawyer Jannatul Ferdous via postal service.
The notice calls on Monica Kabir to immediately cease all indecent and controversial content creation. It also instructs her to remove the video and related materials circulating on the social media platform Facebook.
In addition, the notice demands that Monica clarify her legal status in Bangladesh, particularly regarding her work permit and valid visa. She has been asked to submit all necessary documents to substantiate her legal stay in the country.
Authorities have warned that if these requirements are not met within seven days, legal action will be taken against her under the Dhaka Metropolitan Ordinance 1976, the Cyber Security Ordinance 2025, and relevant sections of the Bangladesh Penal Code 1860.
| Date | Location | Allegation | Platform | Public Response |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 March 2026 | Gulshan, Dhaka | Assault of a pedestrian | Intense public criticism and online debate | |
| 11 March 2026 | Gulshan, Dhaka | Legal notice issued | Postal service | Call for apology and content removal |
The incident came to light when a video of the alleged assault surfaced online, quickly going viral. Netizens reacted sharply, condemning the behaviour as inappropriate and unlawful.
Lawyer Jannatul Ferdous stated: “The notice seeks a civil resolution by urging Monica Kabir to apologise publicly and remove controversial content. Failure to comply will result in strict legal action under the relevant Bangladeshi laws.”
The circulation of such videos on social media has raised concerns about accountability and the potential legal repercussions for public figures. Experts highlight that sharing indecent or violent content online can rapidly escalate into serious legal consequences.
Monica Kabir’s legal status and conduct in Bangladesh are now under scrutiny. The government and legal authorities emphasise the importance of compliance with immigration laws, work permits, and social responsibility, signalling that celebrity status does not exempt individuals from the law.
This case has also sparked wider debate over the responsibility of public figures on social media and the need for strict enforcement of cyber regulations in Bangladesh.
