Mirza Abbas’s Health Shows Signs of Improvement

Singapore – The health condition of BNP leader Mirza Abbas, who has been receiving treatment at Singapore General Hospital, is reportedly improving, according to Minister for Social Welfare, A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain. The minister provided the update to the media on Monday, 23 March 2026, highlighting positive developments in the politician’s recovery.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Zahid Hossain said that, following consultations with the attending physicians, various medical indicators point towards gradual improvement. “His condition is on the mend, Alhamdulillah. However, as the issues involve the brain, complete recovery will require some additional time,” he added. He also requested that the people of Bangladesh keep Mirza Abbas in their prayers during his recovery.

Timeline of Illness and Treatment

Mirza Abbas fell seriously ill on 15 March 2026, prompting his transfer from Dhaka to Singapore via air ambulance. Upon arrival, he was admitted to Singapore General Hospital, where he has since been under continuous intensive care.

According to Mizanur Rahman Sohel, Abbas’s personal assistant, the patient demonstrated encouraging progress on Monday morning. At 10:00 am, doctors assisted him to sit up in a chair from his hospital bed, signalling a positive step in his recovery. Sohel also noted that Mirza Abbas is gradually regaining the ability to speak and interact.

The hospital team continues to monitor his condition closely, with round-the-clock care provided by medical staff. By his side are his wife, Afroza Abbas, and their son, Yasir Abbas, offering constant support during this critical period.

Minister Hossain emphasised that while the improvement is encouraging, full recovery remains a gradual process due to the neurological nature of Abbas’s condition. The update has provided reassurance to supporters and colleagues who had been anxiously following his health status.

Medical observers note that regaining motor control and speech after serious brain-related illness is typically incremental. The presence of close family and attentive care, combined with ongoing treatment, is expected to aid the rehabilitation process.

As Mirza Abbas continues to stabilise, authorities and family members urge patience and continued prayers from the public, highlighting the role of community support in his journey toward full recovery.
