The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 is scheduled to conduct a formal charge framing hearing today, Wednesday (15 April 2026), against 28 individuals, including former Minister for Textiles and Jute, Jahangir Kabir Nanak. The case pertains to allegations of crimes against humanity involving the deaths of nine individuals in the Mohammadpur area of the capital during the July 2024 mass uprising.
The hearing will be presided over by a judicial panel led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar, Chairman of ICT-1. Those currently in custody are expected to be produced before the tribunal for the proceedings.
Earlier, on 18 January 2026, the court took the formal charges submitted by the prosecution into cognizance and issued arrest warrants against 28 suspects. Although the hearing was originally slated for 8 April, it was rescheduled after defence lawyers argued that the prosecution had failed to provide the necessary documentation. Consequently, the tribunal fixed today’s date, with the prosecution expected to open the arguments.
The prosecution has brought forward three specific charges related to the events of 18 and 19 July 2024. It is alleged that during the student-led mass movement, the Awami League, the now-banned Chhatra League, and certain members of the law enforcement agencies carried out acts of brutality.
The prosecution further asserts that the accused provided incitement and provocation, and were either directly or indirectly present when live ammunition was fired upon unarmed protesters. These actions resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including Mahmudur Rahman Saikat and Farhan Faiyaaz, and left numerous others with significant injuries.
Of the 28 individuals named in the case, only four have been arrested to date. The remaining high-profile suspects, including former political leaders and senior police officials, remain fugitives.

The tribunal continues its efforts to bring the fugitive suspects to justice as the legal proceedings for the July-August incidents move forward.
