The prominent South Korean singer-songwriter and actress, IU, has marked her birthday by donating a total of 300 million Korean Won (equivalent to approximately $200,000) to various charitable organisations. Her management agency, EDAM Entertainment, officially announced the philanthropic gesture on Saturday.
The donation was made under the combined moniker “IUAENA”, which merges the artist’s stage name, IU, with the name of her official global fan club, “UAENA”. This joint name is regularly utilised by the artist to honour her supportive fan base during her frequent charitable activities.
The total sum of 300 million Korean Won has been strategically distributed across five distinct institutions to maximise the impact of the aid. A primary contribution of 100 million Korean Won was allocated directly to the Asan Medical Center, located in the capital city of Seoul. The remaining 200 million Korean Won was divided equally among four other domestic charitable organisations, with each receiving 50 million Korean Won.
The precise distribution of the birthday fund is structured as follows:
| Recipient Organisation | Location / Type | Amount (Korean Won) |
| Asan Medical Center | Seoul (Medical Institution) | 100,000,000 KRW |
| Local Charitable Organisation 1 | Domestic Charity | 50,000,000 KRW |
| Local Charitable Organisation 2 | Domestic Charity | 50,000,000 KRW |
| Local Charitable Organisation 3 | Domestic Charity | 50,000,000 KRW |
| Local Charitable Organisation 4 | Domestic Charity | 50,000,000 KRW |
| Total Philanthropic Fund | All Recipients | 300,000,000 KRW (~$200,000) |
According to the official statement released by EDAM Entertainment, the financial support will be directed toward various vulnerable demographics within South Korea. The funds have been earmarked for the following social welfare initiatives:
Medical Assistance: Providing essential financial aid to patients who are facing severe economic hardships and cannot afford critical medical treatments.
Youth Education and Culture: Supporting diverse educational initiatives and funding cultural programmes specifically designed for children and adolescents.
Elderly Care: Assisting senior citizens who live alone without family support, ensuring they receive basic necessities and care.
Single-Parent Families: Offering financial stability and resources to vulnerable single mothers and their immediate households.
Support for the Disabled: Funding the procurement and distribution of advanced assistive devices and specialised equipment for individuals living with physical disabilities.
This recent birthday contribution is part of a long-standing tradition of charitable giving by the South Korean star. Operating under the “IUAENA” collective name, IU routinely makes significant financial donations to coincide with notable milestones, public holidays, and the year-end festive season.
Prior to this birthday donation, earlier in the same month, IU donated 100 million Korean Won to support children and teenagers in celebration of South Korea’s national Children’s Day. Her management agency reaffirmed that these recurring acts of benevolence aim to share the warmth she receives from her fans with the wider community.
