Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is currently on an official state visit to Malaysia, where a cultural moment during a formal programme has drawn widespread attention at home.
At an event held as part of the visit, a Malaysian performer rendered the popular Bangladeshi song “Bolte Bolte Cholte Cholte”, originally sung by Bangladeshi music artist Imran. The performance, staged in the presence of the Prime Minister, added an unexpected cultural highlight to the diplomatic proceedings, blending artistic expression with international engagement.
The moment was later shared on Facebook by cardiologist Monowarul Kadir Bitu, who is accompanying the Prime Minister as part of the official delegation. The post quickly circulated on social media platforms, drawing interest from music enthusiasts and followers of Bangladeshi entertainment alike.
The rendition soon reached Imran himself, who expressed visible excitement upon learning that one of his songs had been performed by a Malaysian artist at an official programme attended by the head of government. Speaking about the experience, he described it as deeply gratifying, noting the significance of hearing his own composition being performed in a foreign setting before the country’s leader.
He also conveyed appreciation for the cultural resonance of the moment, suggesting that it reflected the growing reach of Bangladeshi music beyond national borders. Imran added that if he were to perform in Malaysia in the future, he would be keen to meet the artist who delivered the rendition.
Such instances of cross-cultural musical exchange are often seen as informal yet meaningful extensions of diplomatic visits, offering a softer dimension to state-level engagements. They frequently highlight how music can transcend linguistic and geographical boundaries, creating shared moments of recognition between different cultures.
The Prime Minister is expected to continue his scheduled engagements as part of the Malaysia visit before moving on to the next leg of his international tour in China.
