Pakistani Concerns Over ‘No-Handshake’ Incident in Asia Cup

Pakistan expressed displeasure over the issue of Indian cricketers not shaking hands during the Asia Cup, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to submit a written request to the ICC for the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft.

The PCB alleged that, during the toss, the referee himself had instructed the Pakistan captain that there was no need to shake hands. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected PCB’s claim.

Despite initial frustration at the ICC’s decision, Pakistan eventually decided not to withdraw from the Asia Cup. Earlier, the PCB had issued a stern warning that they would pull out of the tournament if their demands were not met.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Pakistan had already decided to continue playing the remaining matches even before receiving the ICC’s response.

Today, Pakistan will face the hosts, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in Dubai. Having lost to India earlier, this match is now a must-win for Salman Butt’s side.

The UAE is entering the match brimming with confidence after defeating Oman by 42 runs in their previous fixture. Their captain, Mohammed Wasim, scored a brilliant 69 runs off 54 balls in that match.

He expressed his intention to continue with aggressive batting against Pakistan as well: “We aim to play positively and take the attack to Pakistan.”

Additionally, Pakistan had defeated UAE twice in the tri-nation T20 series in Sharjah prior to the Asia Cup. This head-to-head record gives Pakistan a psychological advantage going into today’s encounter.
