The House of Commons in the United Kingdom recently witnessed a remarkable celebration marking the release of the Bengali song “Prem Piyasa”, performed by acclaimed singer Rubaiyat Zahan and the legendary vocalist Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. The event was jointly organised by British Member of Parliament Ruth Cadbury and renowned composer and music director Raja Kashef.
The ceremony drew an esteemed audience, including Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his son Shah Jaman Khan, alongside celebrated singers Asif Akbar and Dhrub Guha, head of Dhrub Music Station. Several members of the British Parliament were present, as were notable figures from the Bangladeshi expatriate community in the United Kingdom, reflecting the event’s cultural significance.
In recognition of their outstanding contributions to music, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shah Jaman Khan were honoured during the ceremony. The song, released under the banner of Dhrub Music Station in Bangladesh, features lyrics by Kabir Bakul, with music composition and arrangement by Raja Kashef. The accompanying music video was produced and directed by Saikat Reza, capturing the essence of the song’s melodic narrative.
Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan expressed his gratitude, saying,
