Bruno Mars has achieved a career milestone with his latest album, The Romantic, which debuted at No. 1 on the albums chart. This marks the first time any of his solo full-length projects has entered the chart directly at the summit.

The singer-songwriter’s fourth solo album amassed an impressive 186,000 equivalent album units in its first week, according to Billboard. While Mars previously reached No. 1 with Unorthodox Jukebox in 2013, that album took three months to climb to the top. Many fans were surprised to learn that his 2016 release, 24K Magic, peaked only at No. 2, blocked by Metallica’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct. Similarly, An Evening with Silk Sonic, his 2021 collaborative project with Anderson .Paak, also reached No. 2.

Billboard highlighted that the 13-year span between Mars’ No. 1 albums is the longest for any living solo male artist since Paul McCartney’s 36-year gap between Flowers in the Dirt and Egypt Station in 2018.

A key factor in The Romantic’s first-week success was its 10 vinyl variants, which accounted for 48,000 units. The album’s lead single, I Just Might, became Mars’ 10th No. 1 on the Hot 100 and is expected to return to the top in the forthcoming chart release.

The current top 10 on the albums chart demonstrates a diverse mix of genres and established artists alongside rising stars.

With The Romantic, he not only consolidates his legacy but also sets the stage for a likely long chart presence, boosted by both digital streams and physical vinyl sales.
