The South Korean music phenomenon BTS has once again asserted its global dominance, debuting at number one on the United States Billboard 200 with their latest studio album Arirang. The release not only marks a triumphant return for the seven-member group but also delivers one of the most commanding opening weeks for any act in over a decade.

According to official figures, Arirang amassed an impressive 641,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release. Notably, 532,000 of these were pure album sales, a remarkable achievement in an industry increasingly driven by streaming consumption. Analysts have described the figure as a rare demonstration of sustained purchasing power, underscoring BTS’s uniquely loyal and globally distributed fan base.

A particularly striking element of the album’s performance was its success in physical formats, especially vinyl. The record sold 208,000 vinyl copies during its opening week, placing it among the highest weekly vinyl tallies in modern chart history. Industry observers suggest that multiple collector-focused editions, elaborate packaging, and limited-run variants significantly boosted sales, appealing both to dedicated fans and collectors alike.

This latest accomplishment extends BTS’s record to seven number-one albums on the Billboard 200, further cementing their position among the most influential and commercially successful groups of the 21st century. Previous chart-topping releases include Love Yourself: Tear, Map of the Soul: 7, Be, and Proof. The achievement carries added significance as it follows the completion of mandatory military service by all seven members—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook—making Arirang their first full-group project in several years.

To commemorate the album’s launch, BTS staged a large-scale concert at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, drawing tens of thousands of attendees. The event was simultaneously streamed to a global audience, reflecting the group’s expansive international reach. Complementing the release, a feature-length documentary on Netflix offers an intimate look at the group’s reunion and the creative journey behind the album.

The week proved highly competitive across genres, with several prominent artists securing positions in the upper tier of the chart. Country star Luke Combs debuted at number two, followed by Morgan Wallen at number three. Pop icon Harry Styles and hip-hop artist Don Toliver rounded out the top five, highlighting the diversity of contemporary music consumption.
