In anticipation of the first session of the fifteenth National Parliament, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have announced special traffic arrangements around the Parliament area on Thursday, 12 March, to ensure smooth movement and minimise congestion.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, 11 March, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division, confirmed that heightened security and traffic management measures will be in effect during the parliamentary session.
The press release highlighted that the session will witness the movement of the President, Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, foreign diplomats, political leaders, and other dignitaries. Consequently, traffic volume is expected to be significantly higher than usual around key areas including Urojahaj Mor, Khajur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asadgate, and the July Memorial Museum (Ganobhaban) crossing.
To prevent severe congestion, the DMP Traffic Division will implement road diversions from 08:00 to 11:00 on designated routes.
| Original Route | Diversion Rule | Alternative Route |
|---|---|---|
| Indira Road → Begum Rokeya Sarani | Vehicles cannot turn right from Indira Road towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Urojahaj Mor | Proceed straight along Manik Mia Avenue, then via Mirpur Road to reach destinations |
| Manik Mia Avenue → Begum Rokeya Sarani | Vehicles cannot turn left from Manik Mia Avenue towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Khajur Bagan | Travel via Farmgate to continue journey |
| Urojahaj Mor → Khajur Bagan | Road designated as southbound one-way on both sides | N/A |
The DMP emphasised that all motorists should comply with the temporary traffic instructions and use the alternative routes provided. Residents and commuters are urged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays and to cooperate with traffic authorities during the session.
The police department also encouraged the public to exercise patience and follow the guidance of traffic officers stationed along the key roads. These measures are part of a broader effort to ensure both the safety of dignitaries and minimal disruption to regular commuters during the parliamentary proceedings.
