In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of fear through the local community, the body of 27-year-old Ripon Mia was recovered by police on the night of Tuesday, 10 March, in Kulaura Upazila, Moulvibazar. The gruesome discovery was made in the bushes along the embankment of the Manu River at Chok Salon Bagherteki in Tilagaon Union. Ripon, a resident of the border village of Alinagar in Prithimpasha Union, was the son of Hanu Mia.
According to police and family sources, Ripon went to the local Dighirpar market after breaking his fast on Monday, 9 March. His mobile phone went offline shortly after 11:30 PM. Concerned relatives searched for him across the area but were unable to locate him. On the following evening, local residents spotted a mutilated body along the riverbank and immediately informed the authorities. Police promptly arrived at the scene to retrieve the body, which was later identified by family members as Ripon.
Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Moniruzzaman Mollah, stated, “The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible.” He further noted that while initial indications suggest homicide, the exact circumstances will only be confirmed upon completion of the investigation.
The incident has left the local population in shock and heightened anxiety, particularly among those living near the river and market areas. Residents have expressed concern over public safety, while police have assured that they are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
