Following India’s triumphant campaign in the T20 World Cup, the latest ICC player rankings have brought encouraging news for the nation’s batsmen, while presenting a setback for one of their leading bowlers. Abhishek Sharma, who impressed with a storming fifty in the final against New Zealand, has maintained his position at the summit of the batsmen’s rankings. His teammate Ishan Kishan has climbed two places, and World Cup Player of the Tournament Sanju Samson has surged eighteen spots.
Ishan Kishan, having scored 317 runs in the tournament, now occupies second place in the ICC T20I batsmen rankings. With 871 rating points, he is just four points behind Sharma, whose tally stands at 875, marking Kishan’s career-best in T20Is. Sanju Samson, meanwhile, has moved up eighteen places to 22nd after a series of impactful innings: 97 against West Indies in the Super 8s, followed by scores of 89 in both the semi-final against England and the final against New Zealand.
| Batsman | Runs in WC | Rating Points | Ranking Change | Current Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Abhishek Sharma | 570+ | 875 | – | 1 |
| Ishan Kishan | 317 | 871 | +2 | 2 |
| Sanju Samson | 283 | 762 | +18 | 22 |
| Tim Seifert (NZ) | 292 | 730 | +4 | 6 |
| Jacob Bethell (ENG) | 250 | 685 | +17 | 16 |
| Finn Allen (SA) | 221 | 650 | +7 | 20 |
However, not all Indian players shared in this rise. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who claimed 14 wickets in 9 matches, has lost his top ranking. A reduction in rating points has seen him slip to second place, overtaken by Rashid Khan, who has not played since 19 February but retains the number one spot with 753 points compared to Varun’s 740. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has advanced one place to sixth.
| Bowler | Wickets | Rating Points | Ranking Change | Current Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rashid Khan | 10 | 753 | – | 1 |
| Varun Chakravarthy | 14 | 740 | -1 | 2 |
| Jasprit Bumrah | 12 | 720 | +1 | 6 |
The ICC T20I all-rounder rankings saw minimal shifts in the top ten, with only one significant change: New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner jumped three places to ninth. The top three remain Sikandar Raza, Hardik Pandya, and Syed Aiyub, reflecting consistency at the elite level.
India’s players have thus continued to consolidate their positions following a spectacular World Cup, highlighting both the depth of talent in batting and the competitive nature of bowling rankings, where even top performers must maintain form to retain their places.
