Moulvibazar, 11 March 2026 – Police in Moulvibazar have apprehended three men in connection with an attempted abduction of a local woman, seizing a white private car allegedly used in the incident. The arrests follow a rapid investigation involving CCTV footage, intelligence gathering, and field operations across Sylhet city.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police office at 2:00 pm on Wednesday by Additional Superintendent of Police Nobel Chakma.
The arrested suspects are:
| Name | Age | Residence | Father's Name | Police Station Jurisdiction |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Md. Zakir Mia | 26 | Sripur (Nasirabad), Kulaura | Motshir Ali | Kulaura |
| Md. Kawsar Ahmad | 34 | Sayarpur, Sadar | Abdur Rahman | Sadar |
| Josim Mia | 36 | Gulbag (Berichar) | Nur Mia | Sadar |
According to ASP Chakma, the incident occurred on the morning of 8 March. The victim, 29-year-old Fatema Parvez Nishi—daughter of Bappi Eric of South Baligaon village, 5th Kamalganj Union, and wife of Md. Masud Parvez—was waiting at Bot Tola Market in Kamalganj to travel to Sreemangal. A white private car approached her and asked if she wished to go to Sreemangal. When she refused, the vehicle circled back repeatedly.
As she began walking home, the car followed her, entering her street. One of the occupants reportedly exited the car, covered her mouth, and attempted to forcibly drag her into the vehicle, pulling her 10–12 cubits along the road. The victim managed to struggle free and escape to safety.
Following her complaint, Kamalganj Police registered a case on 9 March under Section 7/30 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. Investigations, assisted by CCTV footage and manual intelligence, led to arrests across Sylhet on 10 March.
The white private car used in the attempted abduction was subsequently recovered from the Atma Community Centre premises in Sobhanighat, Sylhet.
ASP Chakma also noted that a check through the Criminal Data Management System (CDMS) revealed multiple prior cases against the arrested men for theft and drug-related offences. Additionally, a fugitive accomplice, Jahangir, faces three cases including robbery. Police confirmed that efforts to apprehend the fugitive and ongoing case investigations continue.
