A violent clash erupted in Domar, Nilphamari, on Wednesday morning over a tree-cutting dispute, resulting in the death of 50-year-old Majnu. Authorities have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident, which took place in the Moydan Para area of Domar municipality.
According to local reports, Majnu, along with his brothers Bablu and Nurul Haq Kalu, attempted to cut down a dry tree on a contested piece of land. Members of the opposing family, led by Belal Hossain, confronted them and prevented them from proceeding. A heated argument quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the clash, three individuals sustained injuries. Family members and neighbours rushed the injured to Domar Health Complex, where duty doctor Dr Asma declared Majnu dead upon arrival. The other two injured individuals were later referred to Rangpur for further treatment.
Majnu, the son of the late Tafir Uddin of Ward 5 in Domar municipality, leaves behind a grieving family. His relative, Mim, expressed frustration at the delayed police response, stating, “We called the police and also dialled 999, but they arrived late. Had they come immediately, perhaps no one would have died.”
Domar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Habibullah Habib confirmed the fatality and said that law enforcement had been dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving the report. He added that the matter is being investigated with due seriousness and legal proceedings are underway.
The clash highlights ongoing tensions over disputed land and the need for timely intervention to prevent violence. Local residents have urged authorities to strengthen security and establish mechanisms for peaceful conflict resolution.
Below is a summary of the incident:

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moydan Para, Domar Municipality | 1 (Majnu, 50) | 2 (referred to Rangpur) | Dispute over cutting a dry tree on contested land | 2 |
Officials emphasise that rapid police intervention is crucial in such disputes to prevent escalation. Community members also advocate for clearer land ownership records and prompt mediation to avoid future tragedies.
