Dr. Ershad Halim, a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Dhaka University (DU), has been arrested by police over long-standing allegations of sexual harassment of male students.

On Thursday (13 November) at 11:00 pm, Mirpur Model Police arrested him from his residence in Shewrapara, Dhaka. He is currently being interrogated at the police station.

DU Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmad said, “Dr. Ershad Halim has been taken to the police station for questioning. Since he does not reside on the university campus, permission from the university administration was not required. However, we are aware of the matter.”

Earlier, students from various batches of the Chemistry Department held a press conference at the Dhaka University Reporters’ Unity on behalf of students who were victims of Dr. Ershad Halim’s misconduct and raised allegations against him.

Additionally, Chemistry Department student A K M Sumon posted allegations against Dr. Ershad Halim on Facebook, where statements from two unidentified victims were shared.
