In a tragic road accident in Panchagarh’s Debiganj Upazila, a 70-year-old cyclist, Abdul Malek, lost his life after being struck by a motorcycle. The incident occurred on Wednesday around noon on the Bhaulaganj-Tokravasha road, directly in front of Bhaulaganj Ideal Girls’ High School in the Chilahati Union.

The Debiganj Police Station confirmed the accident. Officer-in-Charge K.M. Moniruzzaman Chowdhury stated that the victim sustained severe injuries upon impact and was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to a local clinic.

Abdul Malek, a resident of Bodeshwari Boyatipara village in Boroshi Union, Boda Upazila, was reportedly cycling to Bhaulaganj market for routine personal errands at the time of the accident. Eyewitnesses said that a motorcycle, travelling at high speed from the opposite direction, collided with him near the school. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured. Local bystanders rushed him to a nearby rural doctor, but he was declared dead on arrival.

This incident underscores growing concerns over road safety in rural areas of Panchagarh, where traffic management and pedestrian infrastructure remain limited. Locals emphasised the need for speed regulation, proper signage, and awareness campaigns, particularly near schools and busy market roads, to prevent such fatal accidents.
