Moulvibazar, Bangladesh – In a targeted police operation in Kamalganj, two alleged drug traffickers were apprehended on Tuesday night (24 February) with a significant quantity of yaba tablets and cash suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. The arrests took place in the South Kumrakapon area of Kamalganj Municipality.
The detainees have been identified as Md. Atikur Rahman, 40, son of Khurshid Ali, and Ahmad Khan, 40, son of Ali Badi Khan, both residents of South Kumrakapon village. According to local sources, Ahmad Khan has a history of multiple arrests and is considered one of the prominent yaba dealers in the region.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid in the Balu Mahal area of South Kumrakapon. During the operation, officers recovered a total of 103 yaba tablets and 42,900 BDT in cash, believed to have been obtained through drug transactions.
Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdul Awal confirmed the arrests, stating, “The accused have been charged under the Narcotics Control Act. We will continue our operations to eradicate illegal drugs from the community.”
The apprehension highlights ongoing concerns about yaba proliferation in Moulvibazar, a district that has recently seen a rise in drug-related incidents. Authorities emphasised that such operations are part of broader efforts to combat the illegal drug trade and protect public safety.
