Father Confesses to Killing Teenage Daughter in Khulna

A father has confessed in court to his involvement in the murder of his 16-year-old daughter, Nirjona, drawing a close to a tragic domestic investigation in Khulna. Akash, the father, gave a formal confessional statement on Sunday afternoon, 19 July 2026. The deposition was recorded by Judge Md Asadur Zaman at the Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1, after which the accused was remanded in judicial custody.

The breakthrough followed a joint operation on Saturday, 18 July, when teams from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Khulna Sadar Police Station apprehended Akash at a local market stall in Dumuria upazila around 2:30 pm. His arrest came eight days after his wife, Arifa Yasmin Seema, appeared before the court on 10 July to confess her own role in their daughter’s death.

Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam of Khulna Police Station, the primary investigating officer, stated that Akash provided crucial details regarding the homicide during intensive interrogation. After the suspect expressed a voluntary desire to confess, he was escorted to the court premises on Sunday afternoon.

The case originated from a domestic dispute on 8 July. According to police sources, Nirjona left her family home in the Basupara Bashtala area of the city at around 10:00 am, intending to elope with her husband, Rony. Her parents intercepted her on the street and forced her back to the house.

Later that afternoon, a violent altercation erupted between Nirjona and her mother. During the argument, the teenager physically assaulted Seema and began throttling her. Attempting to intervene, Akash struck his daughter with a wooden plank, intending to discipline her. The blow accidentally struck Nirjona on the head, causing fatal injuries. Despite their subsequent efforts to revive her, she died inside the home.

Panicked by the fatality, the parents attempted to conceal the crime. Akash bound the body using a black lungi, stuffed it into a plastic sack obtained from the rooftop, and carried it down from their first-floor flat. He then secured the concealed remains onto his motorcycle and drove across the town, searching for an isolated spot. Eventually, he abandoned the sack on a deserted road in the Prantika residential area on the outskirts of the city.

Returning home, the couple scrubbed the crime scene to erase all bloodstains. Neighbours reported no immediate disturbance, but the couple fled the property the following morning after spending the night grieving.

Md Shofikul Islam, the Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station, revealed that identifying the victim was exceptionally difficult when the sack was discovered. Both the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) initially failed to establish her identity. Authorities eventually released photographs of the victim on social media, which led to her formal identification the following afternoon.

The investigation took a suspicious turn when both parents switched off their mobile phones and vanished from the area. Detectives tracked down Seema using digital surveillance and brought her in for questioning, where she eventually broke her silence. The police recovered the motorcycle used to transport the body six days after the incident, culminating in the arrest of Akash ten days after the murder occurred.
