Dinajpur police have arrested a female drug dealer in Birampur, seizing a quantity of addictive substances, including Tapentadol and yaba tablets, in a targeted anti-narcotics operation.
The suspect, identified as Moni, also known as Sathi, was presented before the Dinajpur court on Wednesday, 11 March. She was apprehended the previous night, around 10:00 pm on Tuesday, from KEDC Road, near the city’s station area. Moni is the daughter of Shahid Mia, a local resident of the area.
According to police sources, the arrest took place during a special operation against narcotics conducted by the Birampur police. During the arrest, authorities recovered 50 Tapentadol tablets and 10 yaba tablets from her possession. The seizure highlights the persistent problem of drug trafficking in the city and the police’s ongoing efforts to curb it.
Investigations revealed that Sathi has been involved in drug trafficking for an extended period. She is currently facing ten pending narcotics-related cases in the courts. Law enforcement officials described her as a “notorious” figure in the local drug trade.
Saiful Islam Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of Birampur Police Station, stated, “After prolonged efforts, we have successfully apprehended the notorious drug dealer Sathi. She has been sent to the Dinajpur court for legal proceedings. Our operations to eliminate narcotics from this area will continue unabated.”
This arrest is part of a broader strategy by law enforcement to combat the increasing circulation of illegal drugs in the region. Police have vowed to maintain heightened vigilance, particularly in hotspots such as the station vicinity, where trafficking activities are reportedly concentrated.
