Pabna police have arrested three individuals following the alleged murder of a 17-year-old van driver, Imran Hossain, by his own cousin during an attempted robbery. The victim’s body was recovered in the early hours of Thursday morning, bringing a tragic end to what began as a routine van hire.
Imran, a resident of Shukurbhanga village in Chatmohar Upazila and the son of the late Omar Ali, had reportedly been hired by his cousin, 20-year-old Suman Hossain, to operate the auto van. Suman was accompanied by two other individuals during the outing, according to local residents and law enforcement sources.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday evening. The trio took Imran’s van and travelled around various areas of Chatmohar from dusk until approximately 10:00 PM. Later that night, near the Ramchandrapur cremation ground, the group allegedly assaulted Imran with the intention of stealing the van and his mobile phone. The attack escalated, resulting in the fatal stabbing of Imran. Following the murder, Suman and his accomplices reportedly abandoned the body and sought refuge in a nearby residence in Bhanguura Upazila.
Imran’s family became concerned when he failed to return home. Upon visiting the local market, they learned that Imran had gone out with Suman and two others. They subsequently went to Suman’s home, where inconsistencies in his account prompted them to involve the police. Confronted by law enforcement, the three men ultimately confessed to the crime.
Chatmohar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Golam Sarwar Hossain, confirmed the recovery of Imran’s body, noting multiple lacerations and bloodstains across his body. The accused, Suman Hossain and his two associates, have been detained at the local police station. The body has been sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
