Gold Price Crashes Overnight

Published: 16 Nov 2025, 01:20 am

After four straight rounds of price increases, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has finally reduced gold prices in the domestic market. In its latest announcement, BAJUS confirmed a significant cut of Tk 5,447 per tola, bringing the price of 22-carat gold down to Tk 208,272 per tola.

The reduction was officially announced in a BAJUS statement issued on Saturday, with the new rates coming into effect from Sunday. This adjustment marks the first downward revision since 13 November, when gold prices were raised by Tk 5,248 per tola, pushing the cost of 22-carat gold to a record Tk 213,719 per tola.

According to the updated pricing structure, 22-carat gold (11.664 grams per tola) will now retail at Tk 208,272. Meanwhile, 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 198,801 per tola, and 18-carat gold at Tk 170,399 per tola. Gold sold under the traditional method will be available for Tk 141,717 per tola.

This latest adjustment adds to the unusually high frequency of price changes in Bangladesh’s gold market this year. BAJUS has revised gold prices 77 times so far in the current year, with 53 increases and only 24 reductions. Comparatively, the previous year saw 62 adjustments, 35 of which were increases and 27 decreases.

Market observers note that such rapid fluctuations reflect broader economic pressures, including volatility in the global gold market, currency depreciation, and rising import costs. Despite the latest price cut offering temporary relief to consumers, analysts caution that further changes remain likely if international market instability continues.
