New York City-based artist Joan As Police Woman has unveiled a stirring new live performance video of her acclaimed track Anyone, continuing the intimate format established in her earlier show The Ride. This latest release is part of a special series titled The Real Life Anniversary Sessions, commemorating the 20th anniversary of her debut album Real Life, originally released in 2005 on the UK’s independent label Revil Records.
The anniversary sessions offer audiences a rare glimpse into Joan Wasser’s deeply personal musical world. Known as Joan As Police Woman since 2004, she has consistently captivated listeners with her combination of emotional depth and technical mastery. Her music draws heavily from soul, jazz, and folk traditions, blending these influences into a distinctive and compelling sound.
A versatile singer, songwriter, and producer, Joan’s career spans ten studio albums, two cover albums, and an extensive anthology. She has collaborated with a roster of legendary artists, including Tony Allen, Lou Reed, Anohni, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale, David Byrne, and Damon Albarn. Additionally, she contributed to Gorillaz’s Song Machine project and is currently touring Europe and the United States with Iggy Pop’s band.
The newly released live videos were recorded on 11 November 2025 at The Owl Music Parlor, New York. Accompanying Joan were Will Grief (guitar and vocals) and Jeremy Gastin (drums and vocals). On reimagining Anyone, Joan explained:
“I wanted to free Anyone from its original 6/8 triple-meter soul ballad form. We rearranged it in a Van Morrison-inspired folk-jazz style.”
Fans can expect further live performances as part of the 2026 Real Life Anniversary Tour, spanning multiple cities across the United States and Europe.
