Following a dominant performance against Pakistan, Bangladeshi fast bowler Nahid Rana has once again decimated a top-tier batting line-up, this time taking five wickets against New Zealand. Utilizing raw pace and steep bounce at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Rana led the charge as the visitors were dismissed for a total of 198 runs.
The New Zealand innings began under immense duress from the Bangladeshi pace attack. The opening pair, Henry Nicholls and Nick Kelly, struggled to find gaps in the field, managing to score only 4 runs within the first 28 deliveries. This stagnancy was the result of disciplined line and length from the starting bowlers; Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed delivered consecutive maiden overs in the second and third overs of the match, respectively.
As the Kiwi batters attempted to accelerate the scoring rate to break the deadlock, Nahid Rana was introduced into the attack. He made an immediate impact, dismissing Henry Nicholls leg-before-wicket (LBW) with his very first delivery. Maintaining his momentum, Rana returned in his subsequent over to remove Will Young, again with the first ball of his spell.
While wickets fell at one end, Nick Kelly provided the sole resistance for the touring side. In just his fifth One Day International (ODI) appearance, Kelly struck his maiden half-century, scoring a resilient 83 runs off 102 balls. His innings was eventually curtailed by Shoriful Islam, who induced a catch to Towhid Hridoy at mid-wicket. At the time of Kelly’s dismissal, New Zealand were 145 for the loss of five wickets.
Supporting the pace attack, Soumya Sarkar claimed the crucial wicket of the New Zealand captain, Tom Latham. In the later stages of the innings, leg-spinner Rishad হোসেন forced Josh Clarkson into a mistake, resulting in a catch taken by Mehidy Hasan Miraz at backward point.
Nahid Rana continued his clinical performance in his later spells. He secured his fourth wicket by dismissing Dean Foxcroft, who was caught by Miraz at square leg. The innings drew to a close when Rana clean-bowled Jayden Lennox, marking his second career five-wicket haul in ODIs. Notably, this mirrors his previous achievement on 11 March at the same venue, where he recorded figures of 5 for 24 against Pakistan.

The Bangladeshi bowling unit maintained a high level of pressure throughout the 48.4 overs. While Shoriful Islam contributed with two wickets and tightened the screws with his slower deliveries—one of which accounted for Blair Tickner—it was Nahid Rana’s 5-wicket haul that defined the innings. The visitors failed to build significant partnerships, leaving Bangladesh with a target of 199 runs to secure victory.
