Nawazuddin Siddiqui, one of the most talked-about actors in Indian cinema today, has come a long way from his early career days. He started with small background roles in films like Sarfarosh and Munna Bhai MBBS, but now he is one of the most influential actors in the industry. However, reaching this position wasn't easy, and in a recent appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, Nawazuddin shared some personal stories about his career and life.
Father's Reaction and Village Ban
Nawazuddin spoke about a particularly tough phase in his career, recalling how his father once confronted him. "One day, my father called me over and said, 'What are you doing in these films?'" Nawazuddin asked him what he meant, and his father replied, "Everyone is saying that your son is getting beaten up in these films. Why are you doing these roles?" To this, Nawazuddin explained, "I have no other options. I'm trying my best." His father's response was blunt: "Then don't come back here after getting beaten up in these films." This conversation deeply hurt Nawazuddin, and he refrained from visiting his village for three years after that.
Turning Point with Gangs of Wasseypur
Nawazuddin credits Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur as the turning point of his career. Playing the role of a gangster in the film made him a household name. After the release of the film, he returned to his village and sought his father's approval. "I went to my father and asked him what he thought. He said, 'Yes, this time you did something good.'" This was a defining moment for Nawazuddin, marking the beginning of his successful journey in the industry.
Pride from His Mother
In the same podcast, Nawazuddin also spoke about his mother’s reaction to his success. He recalled how she had responded after watching his role in Salman Khan's Kick, where he was seen sitting on piles of money. "I asked her, 'How did you like it?' She replied, 'It was a good film, and your character was also good,'" he said. Nawazuddin then asked her what she liked the most, and her answer was heartfelt: "The scene where you were sitting on thousands of notes. That was truly impressive."
Through his hard work and persistence, Nawazuddin has managed to overcome personal and professional obstacles, earning the respect of his family and the audience alike. His journey from struggling in small roles to becoming one of the most respected actors in Bollywood is a testament to his dedication and talent.
