The body of a 38-year-old woman, identified as Sathi, has been recovered by police from a flat in Narayanganj’s Bandar upazila. The discovery was made on Wednesday evening, 17 June 2026, in the Jhautala area. The victim’s throat had been slit with a sharp weapon. Following the discovery of the body, her husband, 40-year-old Mohammad Jani, has gone missing, prompting law enforcement authorities to launch a manhunt to locate and detain him.
According to police sources, the couple had been living in the rented accommodation where the incident occurred for approximately five years. The flat is situated on the third floor of a residential building in the Jhautala neighborhood. The husband, Mohammad Jani, is employed as a salon worker. Since the discovery of the crime, he has fled the area, and his current whereabouts remain unknown to the investigators.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station, Golam Mokhtar Ashraf Uddin, provided details regarding the initial response and the ongoing investigation. He stated that local residents first noticed the situation and subsequently informed the police station that a woman’s body was lying inside a residence in Jhautala. Upon receiving the information from the community members, a team of police officers immediately dispatched to the scene to secure the area and recover the deceased.
Upon examining the body at the crime scene, officers noted that the victim had sustained a severe wound on one side of her neck, inflicted by a sharp weapon. The exact motive behind the killing has not yet been established by the authorities. The Officer-in-Charge confirmed that police operations are actively underway to track down and apprehend the absconding husband, Mohammad Jani, who is considered a key figure in the investigation.
The incident took place in the Bandar sub-district, which is part of the Narayanganj District in Bangladesh. Narayanganj is a major industrial city located near the capital, Dhaka. The Bandar area lies on the eastern bank of the Shitalakshya River, opposite the main Narayanganj town. It is a densely populated region with a mix of industrial complexes and residential settlements, such as the Jhautala locality where the rented third-floor flat is located.
Local police stations, including the Bandar Police Station involved in this case, operate under the jurisdiction of the Narayanganj District Police and the Dhaka Range of the Bangladesh Police. In cases involving suspected homicide, standard police procedures in Bangladesh dictate that the body is sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Simultaneously, forensics teams gather evidence from the crime scene while investigators question neighbours and relatives to gather background information regarding the couple’s relationship and any potential disputes.
As of the latest updates from the Bandar Police Station, no formal charges have been finalized, pending the arrest and interrogation of Mohammad Jani. The police continue to appeal to the public for any information regarding his location since his sudden disappearance following Wednesday evening’s grim discovery.
