The Government of Bangladesh has announced the promotion of three senior police officers and the transfer of another, marking a significant reshuffle within the police hierarchy. The official notifications were issued on Tuesday by the Police-1 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The order, signed by the ministry’s Deputy Secretary Touhif Ahmed, outlines the following changes:
Habiganj Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Yasmin Khatun has been appointed to the Police Investigation Bureau (PIB).
Deputy Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md. Tarek Mahmud, has been promoted and transferred to the position of SP of Habiganj.
Chuadanga SP Md. Monirul Islam has been appointed as Special Superintendent of the Special Branch (SB).
PIB SP Md. Ruhul Kabir Khan has been transferred to serve as SP of Chuadanga.
The notification explicitly states that these appointments and transfers are made in the public interest and will take immediate effect. Officials emphasised that such reshuffles are part of regular administrative measures to ensure effective policing across the country.
For clarity, the key postings are summarised in the following table:
| Officer Name | Previous Position | New Position / Posting | Type of Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Md. Yasmin Khatun | SP, Habiganj | PIB | Posting |
| Md. Tarek Mahmud | Deputy Commissioner, DMP | SP, Habiganj | Promotion & Transfer |
| Md. Monirul Islam | SP, Chuadanga | Special SP, SB | Posting |
| Md. Ruhul Kabir Khan | SP, PIB | SP, Chuadanga | Transfer |
These personnel movements reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain operational efficiency and enhance law enforcement capacity across key districts. Senior police officials often rotate between metropolitan areas, district headquarters, and specialized units to broaden their experience and strengthen institutional oversight.
Experts note that such administrative reshuffles are not only a routine procedure but also a strategic measure to address emerging challenges in law enforcement, ensuring that experienced officers are positioned where they are most needed.
With these changes now in effect, the Bangladesh Police anticipate a smoother workflow across both investigative and administrative divisions, reinforcing public safety and service delivery in their respective jurisdictions.
