A head-on collision between a passenger bus and a Bangladesh Army vehicle in Rajshahi’s Puthia upazila has left one army member seriously injured, prompting a swift emergency response and causing temporary disruption to traffic on a busy regional highway.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday (11 March) near Tarapur Bazar along the Natore–Rajshahi highway, a key road corridor connecting several districts in the northwestern part of Bangladesh. According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, a passenger bus travelling along the highway collided forcefully with a vehicle carrying members of the Bangladesh Army.

The impact of the crash caused significant damage to the front portion of the military vehicle, leaving it severely crumpled. The army driver, who was operating the vehicle at the time of the incident, sustained serious injuries. Local residents and passers-by rushed to the scene immediately after the collision and assisted in the initial rescue efforts.

Emergency services were alerted shortly afterwards. A rescue team from the Puthia Fire Service arrived at the site and extricated the injured army member before transporting him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment. Hospital sources indicated that the injured soldier was admitted for medical care, though details about his condition were not immediately disclosed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus involved in the crash fled the scene shortly after the collision. Law enforcement authorities are currently attempting to identify the vehicle and its driver. Investigators are reportedly examining nearby surveillance footage and gathering witness statements to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

The collision also caused temporary traffic congestion along the Natore–Rajshahi highway, as damaged vehicles partially blocked the roadway. The highway is widely used by buses, trucks, and private vehicles travelling between Rajshahi, Natore, and neighbouring districts. Police officers from the Paba Highway Police Station later arrived at the scene and worked with emergency responders to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.

Sarwar Hossain, Warehouse Inspector of the Puthia Fire Service, confirmed that his team responded promptly after receiving reports of the accident. He said firefighters rescued the injured army driver from the damaged vehicle and ensured his immediate transfer to hospital for treatment.

Road safety experts have frequently highlighted the risks posed by speeding, reckless overtaking, and inadequate enforcement of traffic regulations on major highways in Bangladesh. The Natore–Rajshahi route, in particular, experiences heavy daily traffic and has previously witnessed several serious road accidents.

Authorities have indicated that an investigation is under way to establish the precise cause of the crash and to locate the bus that allegedly fled the scene.
