A troubling incident in Bhola has raised alarm after a mother was allegedly rendered unconscious with a narcotic substance and her three-month-old infant was taken from her arms. Police have since recovered the child in Dhaka following a day-long operation, and authorities are now interrogating the mother, amid suspicions that the case may have been orchestrated.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning in a village under Bhola Sadar Upazila. According to the family, the mother went to a local pharmacy to collect medicines when a woman wearing a burqa handed her a 200-taka note. The family suspects that the note was laced with a sedative. Immediately after accepting the note, the mother became unconscious, providing an opportunity for the woman to abduct the infant. Local residents quickly assisted, and the mother was rushed to Bhola 250-Bed General Hospital for treatment.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and launched a coordinated operation to recover the child. Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md. Ibrahim stated that efforts were exhaustive. Information indicated that the suspected woman had taken the child towards Dhaka and intended to travel by launch from Sadarghat. Upon receiving this intelligence, Sub-Inspector Tajib Islam and Assistant Sub-Inspector Md. Limon from the Ilisha Police Investigation Centre travelled by road to Dhaka. They intercepted the launch ‘Doyel Pakhi-10’ at Sadarghat, recovering both the suspect and the infant.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman has three children of her own. Family disputes reportedly led her to leave the baby with a relative. The relative’s daughter, being childless, was reportedly eager to take the infant. Police have suggested that the incident may have been staged to appear as an abduction. Investigations remain ongoing, and authorities have indicated that a detailed briefing will be provided once inquiries conclude.

The key details of the incident are summarised below:
