Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections were initially announced for 4 October, the official schedule has yet to be released by the Election Commission. In the meantime, former players and sports organisers had already submitted nomination forms within the deadline after being selected as councillors by district and divisional sports associations.
However, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul rejected the applications of those associations that did not nominate councillors through the ad-hoc committee. In addition, instead of the Chief Executive’s usual authority, Bulbul personally signed off on the nominations from the ad-hoc committee. This move has stirred heated debate over the past two days.
On Sunday, several district and divisional sports associations held a press conference protesting what they described as government interference and abuse of presidential power in the BCB election process.
