The U.S. military carried out a bombing on another ship in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing four people. The attack was reportedly conducted over allegations of drug smuggling. This comes just a few days after confirmation of 14 deaths in three separate ships in the same region.
Al Jazeera reported this information on Thursday (October 30), citing the White House.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth posted on X Wednesday night, stating that the U.S. military had carried out an attack on another drug-smuggling vessel.
The recently reorganized Defense Department, now called the War Department, confirmed through Secretary Hegseth that four men on the ship, identified as drug-terror operatives, were killed. The ship was operated by a recognized terrorist organization.
Hegseth did not disclose the exact location of the strike but said the operation took place in international waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Posting aerial footage of the attack, Hegseth stated that, like all other ships targeted, this vessel was involved in illegal drug smuggling based on U.S. intelligence. It was traveling along a known drug trafficking route and carrying narcotics.
The identities of the victims in Wednesday’s attack are not yet known.
The strike occurred while U.S. President Donald Trump is on a tour of three Asian countries. On Thursday, Trump met Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. This was their first summit since 2019. Before South Korea, Trump visited Malaysia and Japan.
