Immigration authorities in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, conducted a raid at a battery factory and arrested 184 illegal immigrant workers.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday morning, targeted workers from different countries for alleged violations of immigration laws.
Kenneth Tan Ai Kiong, director of the state immigration department, stated that among those arrested, 163 are men and 21 are women. They are citizens of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Indonesia, aged between 20 and 49 years.
During the nearly four-hour operation, a total of 219 foreign workers were checked, with 184 taken into custody.
The director said the raid was conducted based on complaints from locals, alleging unauthorized work and presence without valid identification.
He added that during the operation, some foreign workers hid behind electrical equipment and stacks of factory products, but all were eventually arrested.
The arrested individuals have been placed in the Negeri Sembilan Lenggeng immigration detention center, and investigations and legal proceedings are underway against them.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the immigration department to reduce the number of unauthorized foreign workers in Malaysia’s labor market.
