The interim government has increased security at all religious establishments in the capital following multiple cocktail explosions across the city. The government has stated that any attempts to disturb religious harmony will be met with the highest level of legal enforcement.
This information was shared on Monday afternoon via the verified Facebook page of the Chief Advisor.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a 28-year-old youth in connection with the cocktail attacks. Preliminary investigations suggest that the individual is a member of the banned student wing of the Awami League, the Chhatra League, which was disbanded after the party’s removal from power.
The DMP has reported that the suspect is being questioned about several incidents, including explosions at the St. Mary’s Cathedral and the St. Joseph’s School premises in Kakrail.
On the Chief Advisor’s Facebook page, it was stated that DMP, in coordination with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), has intensified operations throughout the capital. Additional security measures have been implemented at all churches and religious institutions. The interim government reiterated its firm commitment to maintaining interfaith unity and communal harmony, warning that any attempts to disrupt peaceful religious coexistence would be met with the full force of the law.
On Monday, cocktail explosions were reported at four locations across Dhaka, though no casualties have been reported.
Initial investigations revealed that two cocktails exploded on a road near the offices of fishery and livestock advisor Farida Akhter and Farhad Mozhar in Mohammadpur. Another explosion occurred in front of the Grameen Bank’s head office in Mirpur. Two additional explosions were reported in front of the Midas Centre on Dhanmondi 27 and near the Ibn Sina Hospital on Dhanmondi 9.
The DMP confirmed that no injuries or fatalities have been reported from these incidents.
