The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Game Development Department has taken another significant step in its mission to strengthen grassroots cricket. Following the successful completion of the programme in Sylhet, the board has now launched its Coaching Education Programme in Chattogram, marking another milestone in the nationwide initiative to enhance the quality of local coaches.
A three-day Level-A coaching course commenced on Tuesday morning at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium. BCB Director Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury inaugurated the programme, which has drawn the participation of 32 academy coaches from the region.

The course aims to equip participants with key aspects of modern cricket coaching—player development across age groups, technical and tactical awareness, match preparation, and on-field management. Leading the sessions are senior BCB coaches Wahidul Gani, Golam Faruq Suru, Imdad Imdu, and Nasiruddin Sojib, with Cesar serving as the programme’s physical trainer.
During the opening ceremony, Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury emphasised the importance of coaching in shaping future cricketers, stating:
“Quality coaches form the backbone of any cricketing nation. The stronger our coaching network becomes, the brighter the future of Bangladesh cricket.”
Habibul Bashar, former national captain and currently Head of Operations in the Game Development Department, echoed that sentiment. He highlighted that professionalising the country’s cricket structure begins with investing in coaching development, saying:
“Playing alone isn’t enough. Understanding the game, learning its principles and teaching them properly are crucial. These coaches work directly at the grassroots, so their growth will have a long-term impact on the national pipeline.”
After beginning in Sylhet and now moving to Chattogram, the BCB plans to extend this programme to every division of the country. The overarching goal remains clear—to build a strong coaching foundation and create the ideal environment for producing future national cricketers from the grassroots.
