In the occupied West Bank, the Israeli occupation is increasing pressure much like in Gaza. This year alone, 32,000 Palestinians have been forcibly evicted from three refugee camps in the West Bank.
A report published last week by Human Rights Watch (HRW) revealed this information. It stated that Israeli operations in the Jenin, Nur Shams, and Tulkarem refugee camps since January constitute the largest mass displacement in the West Bank since 1967.
Israeli violence in the West Bank is rapidly escalating. Since the start of the Gaza invasion on 7 October 2023, over a thousand Palestinians have been killed by Israelis. Attacks from illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinians have also increased.
The United Nations reported that in early November, Israeli authorities demolished homes in Area C of the occupied West Bank, displacing over a thousand Palestinians. In occupied East Jerusalem, more than five hundred people have been rendered homeless.
Israel demolished these homes citing lack of permission, even though obtaining construction permits for Palestinians in these areas is extremely difficult.
Despite these events, Israel has faced little significant consequence in the occupied West Bank. Human rights organisations have already called for investigations against Israeli military and political leadership for actions in refugee camps and the forced displacement of civilians.
