Dhaka finished the opening day of their first-class encounter against Chattogram in Mirpur with complete authority, riding on two outstanding unbeaten centuries from Anisul and Marshall. What started as a promising opening partnership soon turned uncertain due to an injury, but the day ultimately belonged to Dhaka’s middle order, who constructed a formidable total of 356 for 2 by stumps.
Dhaka began steadily with Anisul and Ashiqur Rahman making confident strides at the crease. The pair looked assured, rotating the strike well and punishing loose deliveries. However, the momentum was abruptly halted when Ashiqur sustained an injury and was forced to leave the field. The opening stand ended at 72, leaving Dhaka’s innings momentarily unsettled. Incoming batters Faisal Ahmed (9) and Zisan Alam (22) were unable to provide stability, falling cheaply and pushing Dhaka into a potentially fragile situation.
Yet, the innings took a sharp turn from the moment Marshall joined Anisul. The duo transformed the match with a partnership characterised by discipline, composure and calculated aggression. Both reached superb centuries—Marshall with a measured 109 from 132 balls, while Anisul reached a personal milestone by scoring his first ever first-class century. But he didn’t stop there.
Anisul continued to dominate Chattogram’s bowlers with remarkable consistency. His unbeaten 183, laced with 18 boundaries and 5 sixes, showcased a level of maturity and temperament beyond his experience. His strokeplay displayed a perfect balance of patience and authority, and as the day ended, he stood on the brink of what could become a truly memorable double century.
Marshall provided the ideal support. His own century was crafted with finesse, ensuring Dhaka never lost control of the scoring rate. Together, the pair frustrated Chattogram’s bowlers, who found no breakthroughs for the final two sessions. With eight wickets still in hand, Dhaka will resume tomorrow looking to push well beyond the 450-run mark.
Elsewhere in Bogura, Khulna had a mixed day against Rangpur. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they managed to close at a respectable 302 for 9. Soumya Sarkar was the standout performer with a fluent 56 off 55 balls, hitting eleven fours and a six. Ziaur Rahman contributed 36, but most other batters failed to convert their starts. Rangpur’s Nasir Hossain bowled with discipline, claiming 3 important wickets.
In Rajshahi, the title race intensified as Sylhet met league leaders Barishal in a match where the equation was simple—win and be crowned champions. Despite missing three key pacers: Rejaur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain, and Khaled Ahmed, Sylhet fought admirably. Barishal began strongly and reached 188 for 3, but Sylhet mounted a brilliant comeback in the final session, taking 6 wickets to leave Barishal wobbling at 269 for 9 by stumps. Mahmududdin Tareq picked up 3 wickets, while Abu Jayed claimed 2.
Mymensingh, second in the points table, also strengthened their challenge with an impressive display. They bowled out Rajshahi for 219, with Abu Haider taking 3 wickets and Galib and Rakibul Hasan picking up two each. By stumps, they were 73 for 2, with Khaled Hasan unbeaten on 28 and Ariful Islam on 5.
Across all venues, competition remained intense, but the spotlight shone brightest on Anisul’s magnificent innings—an unforgettable maiden century that might yet become a double.
