The investigation into the shocking murder of 27-year-old Dipo Chandra Das, a factory worker at Valuka’s Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited, has taken a significant turn. On Saturday afternoon, the Mymensingh court granted a two-day police remand for six newly arrested suspects, in a hearing presided over by Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahadat Hossain.
According to police sources, all six individuals are employees of the same factory. They were apprehended during separate operations on Wednesday night in the Hobirbari and Kashor areas. Authorities allege that the suspects had incited unrest among their colleagues with the intent to pressure Dipo into resigning, which ultimately escalated into the fatal attack.
Details of the arrested suspects:
| Name | Age | District/Upazila | Occupation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selim Mia | 22 | Begumganj, Noakhali | Worker, Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited |
| Md. Takbir | 22 | Jamalganj, Sunamganj | Worker, Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited |
| Ruhul Amin | 42 | Baliadangi, Thakurgaon | Worker, Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited |
| Nur Alam | 33 | Mymensingh Sadar | Worker, Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited |
| Shamim Mia | 28 | Tarakanda | Worker, Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited |
| Masum Khalasi | 22 | Shibchar, Madaripur | Worker, Pioneer Knitwear (BD) Limited |
Initial investigations suggest that the conflict began with an argument among three female workers at the factory, in which Dipo was also involved. A verbal dispute between Dipo and Selim Mia of Begumganj reportedly included allegedly disrespectful remarks concerning the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which further inflamed tensions. The discord quickly spread among over a hundred factory workers, eventually culminating in a violent assault that resulted in Dipo’s death.
So far, law enforcement has detained 18 individuals in connection with the killing, of whom 12 have already been placed on three-day remand.
Inspector P.S.M. Mostachinur Rahman of Mymensingh Court stated, “The remand hearing for the six suspects was conducted in our presence today. The police had initially requested a seven-day remand last Thursday.”
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue to identify the principal perpetrators and collect crucial evidence to bring the culprits to justice.
