Despite an active ceasefire, Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip on Thursday resulted in the deaths of at least three Palestinians and left five others injured, according to medical sources cited by Anadolu Agency.
The fatalities occurred in the southern Gaza City district of Khan Yunis, where gunfire from Israeli military vehicles struck the eastern neighbourhoods. Medical officials reported that one Palestinian was killed near Sheikh Nasser, close to the so-called ‘Yellow Line’, while another succumbed to gunfire in a different part of eastern Khan Yunis outside the direct military deployment zones.
In the central Gaza town of Deir al-Balah, additional casualties were reported. Husam Abu Karim was killed and five others injured after a missile, reportedly launched from an Israeli drone, struck near the Makki roundabout adjacent to the Al-Maghazi refugee camp. The wounded were rushed to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital for treatment.
These attacks constitute violations of the ongoing truce and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas, which came into effect on 10 October 2025. Medical sources indicate that since the ceasefire began in early October, Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of 492 Palestinians and injured 1,356 more.
The truce ended a prolonged period of Israeli aggression spanning two years, during which more than 71,600 Palestinians were killed and 171,300 injured. According to United Nations assessments, roughly 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure was destroyed during the conflict, with reconstruction costs estimated at nearly $70 billion.
Summary of Recent Casualties in Gaza (Post-Ceasefire, October 2025 – Present)
| Location | Fatalities | Injured | Cause of Incident |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khan Yunis (East) | 2 | — | Israeli gunfire |
| Deir al-Balah / Al-Maghazi | 1 | 5 | Missile strike from Israeli drone |
| Total (Ceasefire Period) | 492 | 1,356 | Various Israeli military operations |
The recent escalation underscores the fragile nature of the ceasefire, highlighting ongoing tensions and the vulnerability of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. While the truce temporarily halted the large-scale hostilities that devastated the region, these fresh attacks reveal persistent volatility, threatening the tenuous peace and reconstruction efforts.
Medical authorities and local observers continue to express concern over the safety of civilians, noting that any resurgence of violence could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where basic services remain severely compromised following years of conflict.
