Iran Stands Alone Against Global Forces

Iran, under the leadership of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, continues its solitary struggle against some of the world’s most powerful nations and their allies. Facing the technologically advanced military might of the United States and the aggressive forces of Israel, Tehran is relying on its own strategic arsenal to resist overwhelming pressure.

The conflict has now entered its fifth day, with Tehran and surrounding cities experiencing heavy bombardment. Reports from international media indicate that loud explosions were heard across the Iranian capital on Wednesday, escalating casualties across the country. According to the US-based Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANNA), at least 1,100 people have been killed in Iran so far.

Compounding the crisis, a recent submarine attack off the coast of Sri Lanka targeted an Iranian vessel, injuring 78 and leaving 100 missing. Meanwhile, the United States and Israel have deployed substantial forces to the Middle East: Washington claims 50,000 troops are engaged, while Israel has reportedly mobilised 100,000 soldiers.

Despite American assertions that Iran’s military capability is diminishing, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) insists that its advanced weaponry remains operational. Tehran has conducted missile strikes on US installations and Israeli targets throughout the region, including a large-scale ballistic missile attack on Israel’s capital. Simultaneous drone and missile attacks targeted American positions in Qatar, the UAE, and even a CIA station in Saudi Arabia, prompting a stern warning from Riyadh.

Analysts suggest that the conflict is increasingly difficult for Iran, yet the nation has maintained control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz. France has announced the deployment of an aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean, while the United Kingdom is sending a warship to Cyprus, reinforcing the multinational opposition Iran faces.

The escalating war has placed US President Donald Trump under intense pressure. His administration has spent $20 billion in the first four days, while Congressional Democrats have accused him of misusing the War Powers Resolution. Votes in both the Senate and House of Representatives could limit Trump’s authority to continue military operations against Iran. Public opinion is largely unsupportive, with only 25% of Americans backing Trump’s actions, according to a recent Reuters poll.

Meanwhile, US attacks have targeted approximately 2,000 sites in Iran, including 17 warships, one of which, the Iranian IRIS Dena, was sunk in the Indian Ocean, resulting in at least 80 fatalities. Despite the escalation, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports no conclusive evidence of a nuclear weapons programme, though Iran’s stockpiling of enriched uranium remains a concern.

The conflict has sent shockwaves through global markets. Brent crude prices have surged above $85 per barrel, a level not seen since July 2024, and natural gas prices in Europe continue to climb, reflecting fears over disrupted Middle Eastern energy exports.
