TikTok Dispute Ends in Arrest

Police in Savar’s Ashulia area have arrested a young social media content creator following allegations that he raped a woman after she refused to participate in creating TikTok videos. The arrest was made on Sunday afternoon, 15 March, in the Palashbari neighbourhood of Ashulia, according to local law enforcement officials.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Md Imran Talukdar, popularly known online as “BP Imran,” had reportedly been living in a rented residence in Palashbari where he regularly produced short-form video content for social media platforms. Police say the case emerged after a formal complaint was lodged late on Saturday night at Ashulia Police Station.

Allegations by the Victim

According to the complaint filed by the victim, Imran had been collaborating with her for an extended period to produce TikTok videos and other social media content. Such collaborations, often involving staged performances, lip-syncs and short sketches, have become increasingly popular among aspiring creators seeking online audiences.

However, the woman alleged that she had recently expressed reluctance to continue appearing in such videos due to personal reasons. The situation reportedly escalated on 12 March, when she visited Imran. She claims that during that encounter he forcibly raped her after she again declined to participate in filming content.

The complaint further alleges that after the assault, two other individuals—also described as social media content creators—assisted the accused in physically assaulting the victim. The two individuals named in the case are Junayet and Somaiya, who have also been listed as accused in the police report.

Police Action

Following the complaint, Ashulia Police initiated an investigation and conducted a search operation in the Palashbari area. Officers subsequently detained Imran on Sunday afternoon.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect had been formally arrested and produced before a court shortly afterwards.

Officer-in-Charge Rubel Hawlader of Ashulia Police Station stated that the arrest was carried out promptly after receiving the complaint. He said investigators are continuing to examine the case and determine the roles of the other accused individuals.

Wider Context

The incident has sparked renewed discussion in Bangladesh about safety and accountability within the rapidly growing world of online content creation. Platforms such as TikTok have created opportunities for young creators to gain popularity and even income through short videos, but the informal nature of many collaborations means participants often lack clear legal or professional protections.

Experts note that disputes or coercion linked to content production can sometimes arise when creators rely on personal networks rather than formal contracts or production structures. Law enforcement authorities say that allegations involving violence, intimidation or sexual assault will be treated as serious criminal offences regardless of the context in which they occur.

Ongoing Investigation

Police officials indicated that efforts are under way to locate and question the other two accused individuals named in the case. Investigators are also collecting statements and evidence as part of the formal legal process.

If sufficient evidence is established, prosecutors may pursue charges under Bangladesh’s criminal law relating to rape and assault.

Authorities have emphasised that the investigation remains ongoing and that further developments may emerge as the case proceeds through the legal system.
