Relations between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have reportedly experienced significant strain in recent times, with a series of administrative and diplomatic developments affecting bilateral cricketing engagements ahead of the 2026 World Cup cycle.
According to the account presented in the original report, tensions escalated earlier in the year following a dispute involving Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman and his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The situation was described as contributing to a deterioration in relations between the two boards. Subsequently, Bangladesh did not travel to India for a T20 World Cup fixture, a decision widely interpreted as a reflection of broader administrative discord between the cricketing bodies.
Political conditions in Bangladesh during the national election period were also cited as a contributing factor to the breakdown in sporting diplomacy. Following the elections, there were indications that relations between the two boards were gradually improving. In this context, correspondence was reportedly initiated from the Bangladesh side to the BCCI in an effort to restore normal bilateral engagement.
However, controversy has now emerged regarding the origin of that communication. Former BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul has publicly stated that the letter was not directly initiated by the board alone, but was instead influenced by intervention from the current Youth and Sports Affairs Adviser, Aminul Haque. Speaking to the media, he criticised the involvement, alleging that it undermined institutional procedures within the cricket administration.
He further claimed that this was not an isolated incident, alleging two instances of direct intervention. The first, according to him, involved a phone call made to the chief executive officer of the BCB regarding media access arrangements. The second concerned the aforementioned correspondence sent to the BCCI, which he stated was prepared in coordination with the chief executive and only formally copied to him. He expressed concern that such actions could weaken the governance structure of Bangladesh cricket.
Despite stepping down from the presidency, Aminul Islam Bulbul remains in the country. Meanwhile, an ad hoc committee has assumed responsibility for the administration of the BCB, with former captain Tamim Iqbal reportedly serving in a leading capacity.
The developments come at a time when Bangladesh’s international cricket calendar remains significant. India is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in September 2026, a series that was previously postponed by the BCCI. Additionally, Bangladesh is set to host the Asia Cup in 2027, with India expected to participate.
