The District Intelligence Branch (DB) of the Noakhali Police has conducted a successful raid in the Sadar Upazila, resulting in the seizure of 1,400 litres of illegally stockpiled diesel and the impounding of a voucher tanker. Four individuals were apprehended during the operation, which took place late Friday night following specific intelligence regarding the illicit hoarding of fuel.
The operation was initiated at approximately 10:30 pm on Friday after the District Intelligence Branch received confidential reports concerning the illegal storage of fuel. The target location was identified as Abdul Malek Oil Store, situated in the Udoy Sadhu Hat South Market within the Khalifar Hat area of Matua Union, Noakhali Sadar.
According to police sources, the raid was formally executed at approximately 11:45 pm. Authorities discovered that the fuel had been stockpiled with the intent of selling it at an inflated price, bypassing official regulatory frameworks. Upon searching the premises, officers recovered 1,400 litres of diesel and seized a red voucher tanker used for transporting the fuel.
On the morning of Saturday, 18 April, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the District Intelligence Branch, Md. Mohinuddin, confirmed the arrests. All four suspects are residents of various areas within the Sadar Upazila. The identities of the apprehended individuals are as follows:
| Name | Age | Role/Residence |
| Md. Rashed | 38 | Resident of Sadar Upazila |
| Md. Nasir Uddin | 47 | Voucher Tanker Driver |
| Md. Shihab Uddin | 22 | Resident of Sadar Upazila |
| Md. Maksud | 32 | Resident of Sadar Upazila |
The Officer-in-Charge stated that the suspects were taken into custody for their direct involvement in the illegal hoarding and sale of fuel. Following the seizure of the 1,400 litres of diesel and the red vehicle, the authorities have initiated the process of filing a formal case under the Special Powers Act.
The case is being processed at the Sudharam Model Thana, the jurisdiction responsible for the Sadar area. Under the Special Powers Act, the illegal hoarding of essential commodities—which includes fuel—is a serious offence aimed at preventing market manipulation and ensuring the stability of supply for the general public.
In Bangladesh, the storage and distribution of petroleum products are strictly regulated by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. Unauthorised stockpiling, particularly for the purpose of price gouging or creating artificial shortages, is subject to rigorous law enforcement. This raid by the Noakhali DB reflects ongoing efforts by regional authorities to curb black-market activities that impact the local economy and energy security.
The seized fuel and the vehicle remain in police custody as evidence for the forthcoming legal proceedings. The four suspects will be presented before the court following the completion of the mandatory police documentation.
