Authorities in Nangalkot, Cumilla, have seized approximately five and a half thousand litres of fuel following an operation against the illegal hoarding of petroleum products. The raid, conducted on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, resulted in the recovery of a significant volume of combustible liquids and the arrest of a local businessman suspected of violating trade and storage regulations.
The operation commenced at approximately 11:30 am and concluded at 3:30 pm at the Hasanpur Market, situated within the Jodda East Union of Nangalkot Upazila. The raid targeted a commercial establishment identified as M/S Jalil Enterprise.
The intervention was initiated based on intelligence provided by the Cumilla District unit of the National Security Intelligence (NSI). To ensure the efficacy of the mission, a joint task force was mobilised, comprising:
The Nangalkot Upazila Administration, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Milton Chakma.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nangalkot Police Station and supporting officers.
Personnel from the Bangladesh Army.
During the four-hour search of the premises, the joint forces discovered large quantities of fuel stored without the necessary legal permits or safety protocols required for flammable substances. The primary focus of the seizure was diesel, which constituted the bulk of the illegal stockpile.
| Sl. | Item Description | Quantity (Litres) | Storage Location |
| 1 | Diesel | 5,500 | M/S Jalil Enterprise |
| 2 | Kerosene | 24 | M/S Jalil Enterprise |
| Total | Fuel Seized | 5,524 Litres | Hasanpur Market |
Following the discovery of the unauthorised stockpile, the proprietor of the establishment, Abdul Jalil, was taken into custody by the police. The hoarding of fuel is a punishable offence under the Special Powers Act and the Essential Goods Control Act, as it disrupts the market supply chain and poses significant fire hazards to public areas like local bazaars.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Milton Chakma confirmed the details of the operation, stating that the action was taken specifically to address verified reports of illegal hoarding. He noted that the suspect has been handed over to the judicial system for further legal proceedings.
The Upazila administration has reiterated its commitment to monitoring the supply of essential commodities to prevent artificial price hikes or shortages. In accordance with standard legal procedures, the seized fuel has been placed under government custody, and the arrested individual has been produced before the court to face formal charges. Authorities have indicated that such inspections will continue to ensure compliance with national trade regulations and safety standards.
