A tragic road accident in Jhalokathi’s Nalchity upazila has left one man dead and another seriously injured after a three-wheeled tractor-trolley overturned on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Hanif Majhi (38), son of Sultan Majhi from Bakharakathi village in Bakerganj upazila of Barishal Division. The injured driver is Md. Emon, who sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred around the morning hours on the Manpasha–Khejuratala road in the Kalibari area under Siddhakathi Union of Nalchity Upazila. The trolley had transported a consignment of oil from Manpasha market and was heading towards Bakharakathi when the accident took place.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was allegedly travelling at high speed when the driver lost control. The trolley overturned suddenly, pinning Hanif Majhi beneath it. He died instantly at the scene due to the severity of the impact.
Md. Emon, who was also on board, suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was quickly rescued by locals and later transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for emergency treatment.
Police from Nalchity station arrived at the scene shortly after being informed and recovered the body. Authorities later sent it to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination as part of standard procedure.
Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed and loss of control were the primary causes of the accident. However, police have stated that a full investigation is ongoing to determine whether mechanical failure or road conditions may have contributed.
